This is a slow and easy tour joining two of Europe’s greatest
cities – Munich and Vienna. Our path first follows the Salzach
River and then the lovely Danube, which winds its way through the Austrian
landscape with a rich pageant of history unfolding on either bank. The
Danube is the longest river in Central Europe with a course of almost
1,800 miles. Castles, palaces, chapels and monasteries line its
banks. We will cross the river at least nine times, over historic
bridges as well as more modern ones, and also by means of small ferry
boats.
As any cyclist knows, good food is of great importance, if for no other
reason than to replace all those lost calories! In Austria every
meal is a lesson in history and local custom, every kitchen the focus
of traditions which span the centuries and hearken back to the days of
an Empire on which the sun never set. You will relish the charming
atmosphere of the coffee houses, which embody much of Austrian culture,
as you savor their legendary strudel. Join us in our sojourn through
the heart of Europe!
